The Writing Rock is a series of events and opportunities for limited groups of writers of all levels to participate in guided writing prompts and generative exercises, held on the shores of Lake Michigan at "Point Fratricide," the personal writing retreat of Steve Amick, award-winning writer of novels and short stories.
Why is he doing this?
Steve has plenty of his own writing to do. He has always remained very productive, regardless of the fickle nature of publishing. He believes strongly that writing is a process, not a product. But he does miss teaching and inspiring other writers toward productivity.
As an instructor, mentor, and guide, Steve has had great success inspiring new and emerging writers, particularly in notable and serious MFA writing programs., but also in casual and fun experiences more akin to The Writing Rock.

the fresh new stuff
Long before the anti-creative menace of AI, “generative prompts” have been a staple of creative writing, particularly for rejuvenating inspiration, passion, productivity and new thought. With no pressure to produce whole pieces or great works of art from this, you will discover new ways to think about the process of sitting down and producing something that surprises even you—using only your own amazing brain. Though the prompts are primarily geared toward fiction, writers may work toward poetry and memoir or wherever it takes you.
the setting
Besides the innovative prompts and exercises, participants should also find inspiration in the variety of features in 15 acres of paths and clearings on this wild duneland and forest, mostly of cedar and spruce, including 600 feet of diverse shoreline and a winding creek feeding into an estuary at rocky Point Fratricide on Lake Michigan.
And there's a rustic ampitheatre built into a hollow in the hillside, designed for open air classroom and readings .

The plan is to eventually offer a three-day intensive retreat, with a camping option right on the site, Public readings will happen in the little outdoor theater for both retreat participants and visiting authors..
